We are currently seeking a Reading Development Specialists to join our dedicated team within the prison education sector across the North West. This role offers a unique opportunity to mentor prisoners, helping them to enhance their English reading and writing skills, which is crucial for securing future employment opportunities post-release.
Day-to-day of the role:
Deliver tailored reading and writing development programmes to a diverse group of learners within a prison environment.
Utilise a variety of reading development strategies, including phonics and wider reading techniques, to engage and support learners with varying levels of ability.
Assess individual learning needs and adapt teaching methods accordingly to ensure effective learning outcomes.
Provide mentorship and guidance to learners, fostering a positive and supportive educational environment.
Collaborate with other educational professionals to plan and coordinate educational activities and programmes.
Monitor and report on the progress of learners, maintaining accurate records of their achievements and areas for development.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
A teaching qualification such as PGCE or Cert Ed.
A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
A strong understanding of reading development strategies and experience in supporting learners with low reading ability.
Experience working with learners with additional needs and those with ESOL requirements.
Patience, passion, and understanding in supporting learners who are keen to learn and improve.
