We are currently seeking a Reading Development Specialists to join our dedicated team within the prison education sector across the North West. This role offers a unique opportunity to mentor prisoners, helping them to enhance their English reading and writing skills, which is crucial for securing future employment opportunities post-release.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Deliver tailored reading and writing development programmes to a diverse group of learners within a prison environment.
  • Utilise a variety of reading development strategies, including phonics and wider reading techniques, to engage and support learners with varying levels of ability.
  • Assess individual learning needs and adapt teaching methods accordingly to ensure effective learning outcomes.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to learners, fostering a positive and supportive educational environment.
  • Collaborate with other educational professionals to plan and coordinate educational activities and programmes.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of learners, maintaining accurate records of their achievements and areas for development.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • A teaching qualification such as PGCE or Cert Ed.
  • A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
  • GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • A strong understanding of reading development strategies and experience in supporting learners with low reading ability.
  • Experience working with learners with additional needs and those with ESOL requirements.
  • Patience, passion, and understanding in supporting learners who are keen to learn and improve.
