Salary: £21,222 - £22,132 per annum (Full-Time Equivalent)

Job Type: Part-Time, Permanent

Working Hours: 16- 30 Hours per week, 36 Weeks per year

About the role:

To provide high quality learning support for high needs students with a range of learning difficulties/disabilities, to include language, communication, physical, medical, mental health, emotional and/or behavioural, and sensory impairment within the mainstream curriculum. You will be required to work intensively with such students on a one-to-one or small group basis to help them access the curriculum as necessary, and to make maximum progress in lessons.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with the LSA & Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) Manager and subject teachers to implement, and review, learning support
  • Provide student support both in and out of class, facilitating their learning and progress
  • Supporting students with a range of barriers to learning to access the curriculum, whilst encouraging the development of independent learning skills
  • Assist in the preparation/adaptation of learning materials
  • Being prepared to use digital and assistive technology when supporting students and in the role of Learning Support assistant.
  • Assisting with the supervision of students both on and off site when required, for example on work experience or on trips/visits.
  • Providing personal care for identified, individual students, as necessary.
  • Liaising with outside agencies if directed by the LSA & EHCP Manager
  • To meet students at College at the start of the day and take them to their allocated transport at the end of the day, as directed by the LSA & EHCP Manager
  • Contribute to the development of the Learning Support team by attending staff meetings and in service training as appropriate.
  • Undertake regular staff development relevant to the specific learning needs of the student(s) you are supporting.
  • Participate in relevant College quality assurance procedures, including performance management reviews.
  • To be temporarily redeployed by the EHCP Manager to Learning Support in another area of college in cases of unavoidable need

To be successful in this role, below is what we would need from you:

  • Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy
  • Willingness to undertake training relevant to the requirements of high needs learners and in particular Makaton, First Aid, MIDAS, Food Hygiene and Hoist / Manual Handling
  • Experience of working with adults/young adults from a variety of cultural backgrounds and with a range of different needs
  • Ability to demonstrate an awareness of equality and diversity and its importance within the College
