A surging Multi-academy Trust are seeking a Chief Trust Accountant with a strategic vision for finance matters, a commercial thinker who can help the Trust reach the next growth level. This role involves responsibility and accountability for financial controls and procedures within the Trust, managing the finance service for all schools within the Trust, and providing strategic advice on growth and complex financial issues.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage the finance department, including staff and relationships with third-party service providers.
  • Provide strategic finance services and report to the COO and Trust Board.
  • Ensure financial processes reduce risk and comply with the scheme of delegation.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and oversee financial control systems.
  • Prepare and submit financial returns and the Trust’s Annual Reports in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Oversee the integration of new schools into the Trust’s financial systems and provide training as needed.
  • Manage the Trust’s financial management system, ensuring all risks are addressed.
  • Undertake regular reviews for cost-saving opportunities and procurement services to achieve best value.
  • Manage month-end accounts, payroll, bank reconciliation, and VAT returns.
  • Oversee the payroll function, ensuring timely and accurate staff payments.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) is essential.
  • Substantial finance experience in a complex organisation.
  • Experience in building and managing a whole business budget.
  • Knowledge of PS Financials, IRIS or other budgeting and finance systems.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence others.
  • Proven experience in managing IT issues surrounding finance systems.
  • First-class organisational and administrative skills.
  • Effective communication skills with all members of the Trust and the community.

Knowledge of safeguarding issues.

  • Financial management experience in an education setting is highly desirable.
