Specialist Coach (Support Worker) - Domestic Abuse

Permanent, Part Time (23 hours per week)

South Asian Women’s Refuge in Bedford provides a safe haven for women and their children fleeing domestic abuse. We can accommodate up to 6 women, with or without dependent children.

We are now looking for a Specialist Coach to offer high quality, person centred, and trauma informed safe accommodation and support services to survivors of domestic abuse, enabling them to move on into safe, stable, and positive futures. This is an incredibly rewarding role where you will manage a caseload of customers through their journey and enable them to realise their true potential.

You’ll work closely with key partners, deliver quality, outcome focused support in both one-to-one and group sessions and providing both emotional and practical support. You’ll support them with keeping safe, healthy relationships, substance use, mental health and wellbeing, finance and budget management and employment skills.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area such as Health & Social Care.
  • Have an understanding and experience of the practical, emotional, economic and social issues of those experiencing domestic abuse, particularly those with multiple complex needs and women from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Communities.
  • Be experienced in caseload management, with a clear focus on outcomes for customers and their wider community.
  • Have experience of completing risk assessments and carrying out robust safety planning.
  • Be able to record concise, accurate case notes and support paperwork.
  • Understand the effects of domestic abuse related trauma, appropriate responses, and professional boundaries.
  • Be able to demonstrate partnership working with specialist agencies such as mental health teams, offending services, and other relevant services.
  • Have exceptional communication skills.
  • Able to work under pressure, using own initiative.

Fluency in an additional Asian language is also essential.

**Female applicants only under an exemption from the Equality Act 2010 - Section 9 - Part 1 (A) as a genuine occupational requirement**

Due to the nature of the role, you will be flexible in your approach, working hours on a five day rota, which may include bank holidays as well as evenings and weekends when required.
