Religious Education Adviser

We are seeking to appoint an inspiring and personable candidate into this essential post. It is an exciting opportunity to work as a key member of the Manchester Diocesan Education team and this role reflects the commitment and heightened profile of our work on Religious Education with our Church schools and academies.

The successful candidate will work directly with schools and teachers across the diocese to ensure that Religious Education is resourced and meets national expectations for RE in Church of England schools. The post holder will be a qualified teacher and will support schools to develop and sustain the provision, profile, and priority of religious education. Previous experience leading Religious Education in a primary school is an essential criterion for the role.

There is an Occupational Requirement for the post holder to be a practising Christian in accordance with Schedule 9 to the Equality Act 2010. The post will be offered to the successful candidate subject to satisfactory references, a DBS check at enhanced level and proof of eligibility to work in the UK.

Background Information:

The Board of Education (BOE) is an incorporated statutory body of the Diocese of Manchester. It has two sub-committees, and each meets three times per year. There are Finance and General Purposes and Schools sub-committees. The BOE governs the work of the Education Department in the Diocese, including this post.

Under the leadership of the Director, the Department contracts with independent Diocesan School Advisors (DSAs) who support the leadership, school effectiveness and governance, where necessary, of our Church of England schools.

The Department supports the leadership and management of one hundred and ninety-two Church of England schools and academies serving 64,000 pupils, and two university chaplaincies. It is the one of the largest in England. The Children and Youth Officers support children’s and youth work in parishes, linking with schools and the wider context of the diocese.

The role is based at St John’s House, 155-163 The Rock, Bury BL9 0ND.

Hours: Part Time - 21 hours per week, Flexi Time policy in place
Salary: £31,420 - £37,520 (Band 4.1 - 4.3) FTE (£18,852 - £22,512 actual salary for 0.6 part time hours)
