We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in SEMH schools and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) in Wakefield. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a difference and have experience in behavior management.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide academic and emotional support to students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.
  • Implement strategies to manage challenging behavior, ensuring a safe and conducive learning atmosphere.
  • Use effective de-escalation techniques to defuse tense situations and promote student well-being.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to develop tailored interventions and support plans.
  • Assist in assessing student progress and adapting strategies accordingly.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working directly with students exhibiting challenging behavior in educational settings such as SEMH schools, PRUs, or similar.
  • Ability to de-escalate situations effectively and maintain a calm and supportive demeanor.
  • A compassionate approach and patience when working with students facing emotional difficulties.
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification would be advantageous but are not mandatory.
