Finance Manager

We are recruiting for a part time Finance Manager to take responsibility for the finance function of a successful business, being an integral part of a small finance and operational team. This role is to take over from the current, interim Finance Manager, and you will report to the Finance Director.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Bookkeeper and an Operations Manager (non-finance) to ensure the smooth running of the business. The required 20 hours per week can be flexible to suit and coincide with the Bookkeeper’s hours where possible. The role will offer an element of hybrid working after an initial settling in period.

As Finance Manager your key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of all aspects of the accounting function from the interim Finance Manager
  • Overseeing the Bookkeeper in the day-to-day operations of the finance function
  • Working in conjunction with the Operations Manager; comparing monthly accounts against budget, analyse variances, resolve finance related queries, and enable tracking of performance against budget
  • Liaising with outsourced partners - payroll, utilities, VAT advisor and accounting firm
  • VAT partial exemption calculations and filing of returns
  • Production of monthly management accounts, including intercompany reconciliations, budget vs actuals on service charges, arrears, and fixed asset schedules
  • Managing the production of statutory accounts and corporation tax return for the four group companies, which are compiled by an external accountancy firm
  • Production of annual budgets in collaboration with the Finance Director
  • Close control of cash balances and cashflow forecasts
  • Attending monthly finance meetings with the Finance Director, Manager and Bookkeeper
  • Make improvements to systems and controls, identifying areas of priority
  • Providing or supervising holiday cover for the Bookkeeper

  • Qualified or qualified by experience accounts professional
  • Previous experience within a Finance Manager role or similar
  • Be an enthusiastic self-starter, who will be proactive in taking ownership of the numbers and working collaboratively with the small on-site team
  • DBS check required
  • Have good general IT skills and experience with accounting software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
