OREGON'S ALLERGY, ASTHMA AND DERMATOLOGY ASSOCIATES, P.C. (AADAPC) TREATS ALLERGIC RHINITIS

Troutdale dermatologists offer evaluation and treatment for allergic rhinitis, also known as “hay fever”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

19/02/2014

Troutdale, OR ( connect2business.co.uk ) February 18, 2014 - Allergic rhinitis is an allergic irritation of the nose. This condition occurs when allergens, such as pollen, dust, mold, or animal dander are inhaled by a person with a sensitive immune system, triggering the release of allergy symptoms. This condition can also be caused when a person eats a food they are allergic to. Allergic rhinitis is also called "hay fever," or "seasonal allergies."

Doctors at the Oregon-based Allergy, Asthma and Dermatology Associates, P.C. (AADAPC) offers evaluation and treatment plans to help patients manage allergic rhinitis and its symptoms. The primary symptoms of allergic rhinitis include itchiness, nasal congestion, and swollen eyelids. Seasonal plants, which cause the presence of pollen in the air, are often considered the most common cause of allergic rhinitis. However, some patients may experience the condition throughout the year.

The team at AADAPC conducts allergy testing for hay fever to determine exactly what an individual is sensitive to. The most common form allergy testing for allergic rhinitis is skin testing. The most common form of allergy testing is called a Scratch Test. This diagnostic test involves the doctor or nurse examining the skin on a patient's forearm, cleaning it, and then testing different irritants, such as pollen or animal dander, on a specific area of the skin to determine how sensitive the patient is to each allergen. Other allergy testing techniques include the Patch and Intradermal tests, both of which help identify allergy triggers.

Allergic rhinitis can develop in both children and adults, although it does not usually develop in children under the age of 6. Doctors at AADAPC explain that, once allergic rhinitis is diagnosed, the primary treatment goal is to prevent and reduce symptoms by avoiding certain triggers. In addition to avoiding allergic triggers, other treatment methods recommended may include antihistamines, corticosteroids, nasal sprays, and topical decongestants.

While managing seasonal allergies can be difficult, doctors at AADAPC strive to treat each patient in a compassionate environment, with as little difficulty or pain as possible.
