Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them reach their full potential?

Our client, a highly regarded Further Education college with on-site residential accommodation, is seeking a dedicated and motivated Residential Support Officer to join their student welfare team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in youth work, residential care, student support, or education who thrives in a hands-on role supporting young people aged 16-19.

You'll play a key part in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging living environment for students, helping them balance independence with responsibility while they study and live away from home.

The Role

Working as part of a 24-hour residential team, you'll:

  • Provide daily welfare and wellbeing support to residential students.
  • Build positive relationships with learners, parents, and staff to ensure the holistic wellbeing of residents.
  • Support the planning and delivery of fun and inclusive enrichment and wellbeing activities.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, and positive behaviour at all times.
  • Conduct regular accommodation, curfew, and safety checks.
  • Respond to incidents or emergencies, following college procedures.
  • Help students develop life skills, independence, and confidence to prepare for life beyond college.

This is a hands-on role that combines pastoral care, safeguarding, and community building - ideal for someone who enjoys variety and working directly with young people.

The Person

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Approachable, empathetic, and professional, with a genuine interest in supporting young people.
  • Confident and assertive, able to handle challenging situations calmly and effectively.
  • Organised and reliable, capable of working both independently and as part of a small, supportive team.
  • Flexible, with the ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends on a rota basis.

You could also have:

  • A Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant area such as youth work, health & social care, or education.
  • Level 2 English and maths.
  • Previous experience in a college, residential, youth, or pastoral support setting.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and equal opportunities.
  • Good IT and record-keeping skills.
  • A First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
  • A full, clean driving licence.
