Assistant Accountant (6 Month FTC)

As an Assistant Accountant you will play an important role within the Group Transport Finance Team. Within this proactive role you will support the operational & financial running of the business, ensuring management accounts processes are adhered to. You will challenge current processes and ways of working, championing continuous improvement across the wider team


This role is being offered on a full-time FTC for 6 months and can be based in Leeds or Northampton for 2 to 3 days per week. If your location is further afield, we will be happy to consider less days onsite.

We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £38,000 DOE, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). What you’ll do on a typical day:


  • Produce weekly flash accounts, manage period-end processes including accruals and prepayments, and deliver accurate P&L analysis with insights on variances and trends
  • Perform reconciliations with supporting evidence for provisions, deferrals, and payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Assist with annual budgets and forecasts driving process improvements to add value
  • Communicate risks and opportunities effectively, produce contractual reporting packs, and resolve or escalate customer financial queries promptly


What you need to succeed at GXO:


  • Actively studying towards an accountancy qualification
  • Understanding of a logistics business desired but not essential
  • Be proactive, inquisitive with a passion for challenging teams to drive performance
  • Have excellent PC skills including Excel (pivot tables, formulas etc)
