Who are Ambient Support?

Ambient Support, a registered UK charity with over 25 years’ experience in providing care and support services for older people, people with a mental health needs and people with learning disabilities.

Our residential care home, The Croft, is a community-based home for Older People in Amersham. We provide care and support to 60 residents, including up to 31 residents with a higher level of specific dementia care needs. This is a welcoming home from home environment offering regular activities and organised events.

The role of our Kitchen Assistant:

• To assist in the preparation and serving of all meals to ensure that the catering service is responsive to the needs of those receiving meals.
• To cook meals for the people we support in the absence of the Cook
• To ensure that all machinery, appliances, and equipment are properly used and stored so that their working life is maximised, and the likelihood of breakdown and accidents is minimised.
• To assist in organising the storeroom
• Sorting, storing, and distributing ingredients.
• To clean the kitchen area i.e., floors and cookers and maintaining that food hygiene working practices are followed.
• To understand and actively participate in the Health & Safety and Equality & Diversity Policies and procedures at all times.
• To respect the confidential nature of personal information.
• To use computers on a regular basis.

Skills and attributes of our Care Assistant:

• Understanding the importance of health and hygiene
• Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of the role.
• The ability to pick up detailed instructions quickly and follow them closely.
• Basic Literacy and numeracy skills
• Basic computer keyboard skills and the ability to use computers on a regular basis. Examples of the level required may include the use of the internet and emails.
• Good spoken communication skills in order to relate well to the people we support and staff
