Maintenance Engineer

The role

Salary - £35,000-£40,000

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all PPM activities are carried out and recorded in line with company procedures that are currently in place.
  • Keep and maintain all maintenance records for the site ensuring that all relevant documentation is completed and filed with attention to detail.
  • Take a positive approach to issues that may occur on the plant and detail this to the Plant Manager, so that plans can be made in advance of a planned shut-down to remedy the problem.
  • Have a proactive approach in identifying problems that may occur and propose solutions to rectify these issues before they affect the running of the process and site.
  • Identify defects on all aspects of the plant and site and report on a daily basis to the Plant Manager.
  • Detail work that is required over the weekend to the Plant Manager and assist with the planning of weekend work.
  • Work with the Plant Manager to produce shutdown plans.
  • Inform the plant Manager of any breach of health and safety around the plant and make safe again if possible.
  • Assist with the training of personnel on the plant when required, ensuring that all operators are trained in accordance with site procedures.
  • Ensure that all maintenance spares are replenished before stock runs out; this can be done by informing the Plant Manager that these items need re-ordering.
  • Ensure that all areas of the plant are kept in a safe manner whilst working and that the area is left in a safe state and tidy afterwards.
  • Work on the plant during weekly shutdown periods and work with the Plant Manager to organise the appropriate resources needed.
  • With the plant manager help guide/train plant operators when needed in their routine maintenance duties.
  • Liaise at all times with the Plant Manager regarding maintenance issues.
  • An out of hours call out facility is in place this will be shared with the Plant Manager. There may be times when there will be a requirement to attend site in the case of an emergency breakdown, when called upon by the plant Manager.
  • Hours of work will be dictated by the requirements of the plant.
  • Assist the Plant Manager in driving the operators to take a more active role in process or environmental improvements around the plant.
  • Be flexible in approach to any additional training that may be required to improve knowledge and understanding on all aspects of the plant.

The person

  • Recognised Mechanical / Electrical apprenticeship or similar.
  • Welding skills would be advantageous.
  • Computer Literate
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience of continuous processing equipment
  • Permit to work systems.
  • PPM Maintenance systems
  • Experience of working in the waste industry/with heavy process equipment beneficial
  • Knowledge of Environmental Legislation
