Tax Senior

We are recruiting for a Tax Senior to join a prestigious accountancy practice based on the outskirts of Watford. You will be part of a successful and experienced tax team and will take responsibility for a portfolio of personal and corporate tax clients, largely owner manager businesses and some wealthy individuals.

This dynamic firm will consider application from candidates at varying levels of experience and qualification, hence the wide salary range advertised. Part time would be considered at a minimum of three days per week.

Support will be provided by highly experienced Tax Directors, and it is expected that there will be a split of around 60% personal tax to 40% corporation tax work.

Reporting to the Tax Manager your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of clients and being the first point of contact
  • Preparation, review and submission of complex self-assessment personal tax returns
  • Managing all aspects of the client’s taxation affairs and engage with them by telephone, written communication and at meetings
  • Dealing with HMRC matters on behalf of the client
  • Reviewing tax compliance work produced by more junior members of the team and identify tax planning opportunities, concerns and areas requiring further consideration
  • Dealing with complex tax and tax planning issues for the firm’s clients
  • Providing tax support on advisory projects with a view to managing
  • Advising on capital allowances, incorporations and reconstructions
  • Other ad hoc tax compliance and planning work

To be considered for this Tax Senior role, you will satisfy the following criteria:

  • Be ATT, ACA or ACCA qualified (CIOT qualified desirable but not essential) with experience gained within practice
  • Up to date working knowledge of Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Corporation Tax is essential
  • Experience dealing with technical tax related issues
  • Knowledge and experience or UK GAAP and International Auditing Standards (UK & Ireland)
  • Some experience in VAT, Inheritance Tax and Trusts, whilst not essential, would be desirable
  • Good IT skills; Microsoft Office and Digita (training will be provided) or similar tax software programmes
  • Be able to work accurately and meet deadlines
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Be flexible and able to work for clients from a variety of different backgrounds
  • A real enthusiasm for good client service
  • The ability to work both as part of the tax team and with staff in other areas of the practice
