Bradstow is a creative and unique residential school and children’s home for children between the ages of 5 & 19. It is situated in 13 acres of parkland in Broadstairs, Kent.

Payroll Clerk - About the role:

The successful candidate must be professional, positive, efficient and competent as the first point of contact for colleagues and relevant external agencies for all payroll-related matters.

You will ensure the smooth operation of the school’s payroll ensuring compliance with the national and local agreements, employment contracts, the School’s Financial Management Handbook, scheme of delegation and other instructions as issued from time to time; using the appropriate systems for all payroll-related matters.

Despite serving only 62 young people, we are a £14M turnover school and employ around 250 staff. The finance function, therefore, is not only important, but complex, with a high volume of transactions, and need to provide a friendly and approachable service, supporting those colleagues who work directly with our young people.

Key Responsibilities:

• To ensure the smooth operation of the school’s payroll.
• With support, design, implement and continuously improve appropriate, efficient systems for the booking of additional staff resource when required.
• Assist the Finance Manager to report on and maintain the school’s various budgets and reporting on variances as appropriate.
• To work with the Finance Manager to reconcile payroll reports, the budget and so on as required, and to submit timely and accurate reports to the Local Authority as required.
• Participate with other members of the admin team to cover front-of-house functions as required. For example, answering incoming calls, staffing reception and so on.

Payroll Clerk - Qualifications Experience and Qualities:

Essential:

• Experience at the accurate and timely processing, recording, reporting and analysis of relevant financial transactions within an electronic payroll system, and with an external payroll bureau, and with processing payroll fully in- house.
Excellent knowledge of financial procedures and budget planning and control.
• Knowledge of payroll and relevant financial procedures, regulations and processes.
• Ability to plan, prioritise and execute tasks and activities within own and provided deadlines.

Desirable:

• Experience of handling and accounting for petty cash.
• Holding or working towards a relevant formal accounting qualification such as AAT.
• Previous experience of working within a relevant public sector environment.
