Job Title: Bookkeeper (Construction Industry)

Location: Near Bedford, MK43

Hours: 4 days per week/flexi-working

Salary: £23,000 - £26,000 pro rata

Introduction: Our client Excelsior Land Limited is a leading family run construction firm dedicated to delivering high-quality projects in a timely and efficient manner. They specialise in low carbon, MMC residential schemes and every project they undertake focuses on reducing our environmental impact throughout the build process as well as for the occupants when the projects are complete. With a commitment to excellence and a focus on client satisfaction, they are seeking a meticulous and organised Bookkeeper to join their growing team and contribute to the success of Excelsior Land Limited.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining financial records, performing data entry tasks, reconciling accounts and supporting the financial operations within our business. Working within the Finance Team, this role requires excellent attention to detail, proficiency in Xero and Microsoft Excel and preferably experience of construction industry financial practices.

The Position:

  1. Manage accounts payable and receivable processes including resolving client and supplier queries.
  2. Recording financial transactions accurately and in a timely manner using Xero.
  3. Reconciling bank statements and fuel card transactions.
  4. Assist with the preparation of the CIS and VAT returns.
  5. Assist with the preparation of financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements.
  6. Collaborate with the commercial and site teams to track Project budgets and expenses.
  7. Assist with month end reporting and meeting various deadlines.
  8. Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices.


What they are looking for:

  1. Working towards or have gained a recognised finance qualification.
  2. Proven experience as a bookkeeper, preferably within the construction industry. Knowledge of CIS would be an advantage.
  3. Proficiency in Xero and Microsoft suite including Excel.
  4. Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  5. Attention to detail and data entry accuracy is essential.
  6. Ability to multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. A flexible approach to assisting others within the team when busy.
  7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well within the team and able to collaborate effectively with both suppliers and clients.
  8. Knowledge of relevant tax regulations and reporting requirements.
