Salary: £14,872 per annum

Hours: 25 hours per week

Our client seeks to employ a Kitchen Porter to join its enthusiastic, vibrant, and hardworking team. 

As one of only two specialist horse racing colleges in the UK, this third sector provider delivers training for people in both racing and other equine industries.  Located in the scenic grounds of a private estate near Doncaster, it achieved Ofsted Grade 2 for overall effectiveness and Grade 1 for both Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development in December 2022.

The Role

As Kitchen Porter you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen. 

Your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Assist the Chefs with food preparation, including chopping vegetables
  • Preparing ingredients
  • Ensuring a clean and sanitary environment
  • Washing dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils
  • Sweep and mop floors in the kitchen and dining area ensuring both are spotless.
  • Assist with the receiving and storing of deliveries
  • Always adhering to Health and Safety and Food Hygiene regulations.

This is a physically demanding job, where you will be standing for long periods of time and lifting heavy objects.

Hours of Work

25 per week in line with the rota (equates to 3-days on and six-days off), includes a 1-hour unpaid break each day, and are shown below:

  • Monday – 9.30am to 6.30pm
  • Tuesday - 9.00am to 6.30pm
  • Wednesday – 9.30am to 7.00pm
  • Thursday - 9.00am to 6.30pm
  • Friday – 9.30am to 6.30pm
  • Saturday – 9.30am to 6.30pm
  • Sunday – 9.30am to 6.30pm

Skills and Qualifications

  • GCSE’s or equivalent, including mathematics and English.
  • Food Hygiene (Level 2) or be prepared to work towards and achieve it.
  • Excellent level of customer service.
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with fellow employees, learners, and contractors.
  • Adhere to and maintain Health & safety, EHO and HACCP standards and procedures.
  • Adaptable / flexible no day is the same.
  • An awareness of equality and diversity issues in a training / educational environment.
  • Proactive and enthusiastic with a positive flexible approach to problem solving.
  • To be able to work with the minimum of supervision whilst carrying out a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise.
  • Be prepared to be flexible to meet the needs of the business through changes to the rota, e.g., covering for holidays / sickness and ad hoc changes to the training programme.
  • A willingness to undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as may be directed by the Catering Controller.
