Part Time Bookkeeper / Accountant

Job Description

Accountancy Recruit is partnering with a sport / entertainment industry business, in the recruitment of a Part Time Bookkeeper / Accountant with sole responsibility for the accounts function from start to finish, reporting to the CEO. This role is based in Cambridge and offers a fantastic work / life balance together with a varied, interesting, and responsible role, 21 - 25 hours per week.

You will be detail-oriented, with a strong knowledge of best practice accounting and compliance standards. This is a high-volume transactional environment (processing expenses) with the need for detailed financial analysis and reporting of KPIs including costs, spend, monitoring budgets and cash flow forecasting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular bank reconciliations between Barclays and Revolut to ensure all transactions are properly accounted for and discrepancies are addressed promptly. Chase all team members for any outstanding receipts ensuring that all transactions are coded correctly and efficiently in order to optimise reporting.
  • Expense Management: Process and reconcile company expenses.
  • Invoicing and Billing: Prepare and send invoices, track payments, and follow up on outstanding accounts receivable.
  • Financial Reporting / cash flow forecasting: Generate financial reports on a regular basis, providing insights into the company's financial health and performance. Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and laws, including tax requirements and reporting obligations.
  • VAT Returns: File VAT returns for on a timely basis for the company and deal with any VAT enquiries from HMRC. To have a understanding of VAT rules and how the company can be most efficient in this regard.
  • External Accountants: Working with the company's external accountants to provide all information requested for the Year End Accounts.
  • Communication: Liaise with the Director and provide financial updates and support decision-making processes.
  • Ad Hoc Tasks: Assist with ad hoc financial tasks and projects as required, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function.

Person Specification

  • A relevant qualification in accounting or finance (Part or Fully Qualified) - ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, AAT or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a similar part-time capacity, preferably within a small or medium-sized business environment.
  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper / Accountant or similar role, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software - Xero and Microsoft Excel would be an advantage.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Familiarity with relevant financial regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Flexibility to work part-time hours and ability to work either at the Director's office or office location in central Cambridge.

Remuneration
