HOUSEKEEPER CARE COORDINATOR

JOB DESCRIPTION

Hours: 25 hrs per week Monday to Friday including some weekend working on a rota with other staff

Rate of pay: £15.00 per hour

Reports to Community Leader

St Raphaels is a 10-bed community residence for the Sisters of the Mercy Union a Catholic Religious Congregation, on an already established site. The house has 2 floors which can be accessed by stairs, and a lift.

We are recruiting an experienced Housekeeper/Care Coordinator with experience in the adult care sector. The role will be to manage the smooth running of the community house, based in Hillingdon, for the safety and wellbeing of the community of active, retired Sisters who reside there.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The main purpose of role is to take responsibility for promoting and enabling an environment and a day-to-day working schedule, and ensuring staff cover in order to provide the Sisters with a range of support, meeting both individual and community needs.

The role will involve recruiting and supervising a small team of care and support staff to ensure 24 hour, 7 days a week support to the Sisters.

Housekeeper

  • Welcome visitors, providing refreshments and attend to all of those who call as required
  • Ensuring that Sisters’ rooms are regularly cleaned and bed linen changed weekly.
  • Ensure that spare bedrooms are cleaned and prepared when visitors are expected and that beds are remade when rooms are vacated.
  • Ensure all bedlinen is laundered.
  • Clean weekly the communal areas on all floors including bathrooms.
  • Assisting Sisters with laundry.
  • Be the main contact person to ensure regular maintenance checks are carried out including boilers, fire equipment, smoke detectors etc.
  • Liaise with gardener regarding maintenance of outdoor spaces.
  • Create and maintain effective records and filing system for maintenance and any site visits including fire and safety.
  • Be responsible for taking Sisters for hospital and surgery appointments and personal shopping.
  • Undertake on line and physical shopping as required
  • Assist with organising regular checks, MOT servicing etc and general maintenance of cars

Management/supervision

To recruit and supervise support staff who will provide support for sisters and be responsible for ensuring there is cover at weekends and at night.

To ensure all staff are trained and regularly undertake safeguarding and other mandatory training.

To deal with staff’s annual leave requests and sickness absence and ensure there are policies and procedures in place to support staff.

Liaise with the Congregation’s HR Advisor as needed.

Person Specification

Required:

  • Confident Driver
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Experience of working in an elderly care setting
  • Experience of supervising/managing staff and being responsible for rotas and cover arrangements
  • Experience of keeping accurate records
  • Availability for onsite attendance Monday - Friday, approximately 25 hrs per week
  • Available for emergency phone calls at night on a rota basis
  • Experience of dealing with health and safety and maintenance contracts
