Bookkeeper, Credit Controller & Financial Assistant
SD Engineers - Structural Engineering, City of London
Part-time: 2-3 days per week (negotiable), minimum 1 day per week in-office
Salary: £20,000 - £25,000 per annum (based on 3 days per week, depending on experience)
About the Role
SD Engineers is seeking a proactive, friendly, and highly organised finance professional to join our team. This role combines bookkeeping, credit control, and financial support duties, providing essential support to our directors and engineering teams. You will play a key role in managing our day-to-day financial operations, supporting our growth, and ensuring strong client relationships through professional credit management.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounts Reconciliation:
Reconcile company accounts in Xero, ensuring all transactions are up-to-date and accurately recorded. - Setting up new supplier information
- Accounts Payable: Record and manage bills in Xero, ensuring all supplier invoices are processed and paid on time.
- Payroll:
Run monthly payroll for salaried staff and process weekly payroll for ad hoc contractors as required. - VAT Returns - Run VAT returns quarterly through Xero
- Expenses System Administration:
Oversee and administer the staff expenses approval system, ensuring compliance and timely payments.
- Monthly Invoicing:
Review and oversee automated monthly invoicing, ensuring accuracy and completeness prior to issue. - Credit Control / Debt Collection:
- Proactively manage and chase outstanding invoices using a friendly, assertive, and professional approach.
- Discuss client relationships and payment status with engineering staff who raise invoices.
- Contact client accounts departments by phone and email to obtain expected payment dates and record these in Xero.
- Invoice Review:
Regularly review invoices and payment terms for accuracy and compliance, recommending improvements where necessary. - Financial Reporting:
Export monthly financial data from Xero for director meetings, providing clear summaries and supporting information. - Other Financial Administration:
Provide general financial admin support as required, working closely with our team.
About You
- Experienced bookkeeper, ideally within small to medium-sized businesses.
- Experience with credit control and/or debt collection, with a friendly and assertive communication style.
- Proven experience with Xero accounting software is essential.
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to build rapport with clients and colleagues.
- Proactive, organised, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Willing to work at least 1 day per week from our City of London office (more office time is welcome if desired).
