Environmental & Cleaning Operative Part-Time 20hrs - Middlewood Locks
Purpose of the Role
General internal cleaning & the maintaining of a high standard of cleaning within all common areas of Middlewood locks apartment blocks daily.
The purpose of the role is to work as part of a team in ensuring the Middlewood Locks is presented in a safe and clean manner at all times, to the client, occupiers and visitors. You are responsible for the day to day cleaning of specifically agreed areas to the required standards. This includes toilet cleaning, dust control, glass cleaning, mopping, vacuum cleaning, lift cleaning, etc. Some duties will be external with glass cleaning, litter picking & waste bin replenishment, sweeping, etc.
You will have the ability to work both individually and within a team. You will be capable of carrying out your duties without constant supervision and be proactive in ensuring your area of responsibility meets the highest possible standards of cleanliness and safety.
During your daily duties, you will be acting as an ambassador for the Middlewood Locks, delivering a ‘World Class’ service and adhering to the brand values of the client and SMR.
Areas of Middlewood Locks that you will encounter as part of your duties:
- Front of Residential building areas
- Open spaces and tenants/ Public accessible areas/facilities
- Public & tenants Toilets/ Washrooms
- External entrance areas & surrounding external areas
- Back of Residential Building areas
- Stairwells, Bin Stores, Lifts, Car Parks
- Corridors
- Team rooms / facilities offices
- Internal Residential Spaces & Areas
- All communal areas across all floors
- Associated / Management offices
- Internal apartment cleaning
Key Responsibilities
- Working to a cleaning schedule in keeping all areas of Middlewood Locks, clean and to high standards
- Conforming to all ‘Standard Operating Procedures’ (SOPs) in relation to environmental and cleaning practices
- Reactively supporting in effective control of spillages, when reported
- Undertake training pertaining to your role, in addition to other training as required for Middlewood Locks
- Adhering to all Health & Safety requirements, keeping yourself and others safe at all times.
- Use of various machines in accordance with requirements including vacuum cleaning machines, carpet cleaning machine, etc. (when trained)
- To ensure that all waste is dealt with appropriately, emptying and cleaning bins when necessary. (Bins can weigh up to 3 kilos)
- Ensure the safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps as per policy
- To communicate and liaise with team leaders and colleagues to ensure a smooth running of the department
- To maintain all of the sanitary areas to the required standard, replenishing supplies as required.
- To report any maintenance defects relating to Middlewood Locks and its fixtures and fittings
- Cleaning of all public accessible areas
- Sweeping, mopping and cleaning floors (both inside and outside)
- Cleaning public, staff & tenants toilets (both male and female)
- Cleaning low level windows and glass in communal parts
- Cleaning walls (including pillars) and signage (both internal and external)
- Cleaning stairs, stairwells & lifts
- Cleaning of staff rooms, facilities, offices, control room and kitchens and where appropriate external entrances, perimeters and walkways including gardening areas
- Cleaning corridors and back of house areas
- Waste; sorting into appropriate containers, removing cardboard and other items for recycling.
- Completing daily forms to support work carried out
- Compliance with all work-related health and safety regulations at all times
- Any other reasonable task requested by a member of the supervisory/management team
- Be aware of your responsibilities and adhere to all SMR and centre safety guidelines including wearing of all personal protective equipment
- Undertake any further duties as requested by any member of the supervision / management team
- Have pride in Middlewood Locks; ensuring that you deliver consistently high standards of customer service at all times, thereby promoting a professional and welcoming atmosphere
- Ensuring H&S is adhered to at all times when cleaning.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Candidates are required to have the following:
Essential
- Experience in the provision of cleaning services in a busy environment visited by members of the public
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, storage and methods aligned to COSHH policies and procedures
- Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery used in cleaning
- Ability to walk, bend, push, pull and lift repetitively during working hours
- Able to demonstrate a high level of customer service
- Ability to work on own initiative and deal with demanding situations
- A work ethic comprising of honesty and dedication
- Smart and professional presentation
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to work in external environments
- Willingness to partake in further on-site training
- Flexible working approach to work patterns
- General cleaning skills inc hoovering, surface cleaning, toilet cleaning, dust control, touch point cleaning, hoovering, high level cleaning, carpet cleaning (Washing), apartment cleaning
- Experienced in cleaning in a residential block management environment
Desirable
- Cleaning related qualification such as BICS
- Basic Knowledge of H&S legislation
Working Hours - Part-Time 20 hours - 13.00 – 17.00 – 5 / 7 Monday – Sunday
Salary - £12.21/hr
