Head of Finance (Part Time)

RM Recruit are partnering with Sutton Coldfield Charitable Trust to recruit the post of Head of Finance for their team.

The principal purpose of the Trust is to alleviate hardship and improve the quality of life for residents of the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield. This is done through its two core charitable purposes. That is, the provision of housing/alms-houses and also grant awards to support individuals and community organisations. The Trust's origins can be traced back to Tudor times and ranks as one of the Midland’s larger grant making charities in terms of its property, financial assets and annual income. It does not actively raise funds from the public, rather from its significant assets that have been accumulated over hundreds of years. Throughout a long history it has improved the lives of generations of people in Sutton Coldfield, particularly those in the greatest need, whilst redefining and extending its benefits to reflect changing times.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this pivotal role within the organisation is responsible for overseeing the charity’s financial operations, risk management, and reporting. The postholder will ensure robust financial controls and statutory compliance are in place and align with strategic goals

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Manage the Finance function and supervise the Assistant Accountant
  • Responsible for generating accurate and timely financial statements
  • Manage income, cash flow, and investments, producing regular reports to guide the organisations financial commitments.
  • Manage all bank accounts and advise the Chief Executive and Trustees on investment strategies to maximise returns on surplus funds
  • Regular liaison with banks, auditors, the Charity Commission and HMRC
  • Oversee financial systems and procedures to maintain the integrity of accounting data and ensure the secure management of assets
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual budgets, long-term forecasts, and cash flow projections in collaboration with Trustees and staff
  • Compile annual accounts for audit and draft statutory reports.
  • Manage payroll, pensions, and death-in-service arrangements
  • Support the CEO by developing financial models and conducting feasibility and risk assessments to inform new initiatives and business planning

The successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/ACMA) with proven experience in SME environments in a senior or managerial role. Experience of working in a charity setting is highly desirable and past usage of Xero would be an advantage.

The Trust is offering a c21 hour working week (37.5 hour FTE) with regular presence required in the Trust’s Sutton Coldfield (Walmley) offices. The Trust is proud of their hard working and close knit working dynamic and are looking for a like-minded professional to support the services of this community focused charity. The Trust’s excellent benefits package includes a pension with 10% employers contribution together with just over 7 working weeks’ annual leave (including statutory leave).
