Part-Time Payroll Manager / Controller

Hours: Around 2.5 to 3.5 days per week (or 20–28 hours) flexible across full days or shorter days 

About the Firm

You will join a professional and dynamic accounting practice based in Guildford. They have modern offices, offer hybrid working and flexible working hours, plus good benefits and parking. 

Core Duties

Process full payroll runs: salaries, bonuses, deductions, pensions, statutory pay, and payslips.

  • Ensure compliance with UK payroll rules—PAYE/NICs, pensions, reporting (RTI, P60s, P45s etc

  • Reconcile payroll data, resolve discrepancies.

  • Answer payroll-related questions promptly.

  • Suggest improvements to make payroll smoother and be involved in any systems upgrades

Experience Required

  • Payroll experience—preferably within an accounting firm, legal practice or payroll bureau

  • Comfortable using payroll software (e.g. Sage, IRIS, BrightPay) and proficient in Excel.

  • Solid understanding of payroll laws and HMRC guidance.

  • Highly organised and detail-focused—accuracy matters.

  • Used to handling sensitive payroll data.

  • A clear communicator who can explain payroll details simply to clients.
