Meals Assistant

First Steps Nursery has an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Meals Assistant based in Brinsbury??????. You will join us on a part-time (18 hours per week, 52 weeks per year), permanent basis and in return you will receive a competitive salary of pro rata of £24,309 per annum (i.e. £11,826).

This is a Meals Assistant role with a difference! Working at our First Steps Childcare Nursery at Brinsbury College means working in a unique location, surrounded by 570 acres of stunning countryside with our very own farm, woodlands, orchard and more! You don’t often get that in your standard Meals Assistant role!  

The Meals Assistant Role:

As our Meals Assistant, you will ensure meals are served (at the correct temperature) and cleared away appropriately, and ensure that dietary needs are met.

Key Responsibilities of ourMeals Assistant:

  • To serve meals in accordance with individual children's needs under the guidance of nursery staff and adhering to children’s dietary requirements.
  • Washing up as required, and taking overall responsibility for the kitchen and milk preparation area.
  • Maintain the stock levels of cleaning products, snack and messy play items. Liaise with the setting manager re. processes and budgets.
  • Follow environmental health guidelines in regard to fridge and food temperatures, and storage and labelling of food. 
  • To be responsible for the laundry area, putting clean linen away.
  • Support the nursery staff in each of the units to clear up after mealtimes.

Our ideal Meals Assistant should have the following skills and experience:

  • An understanding of children and their needs
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people at all ages and levels, with interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work independently
  • The ability to use initiative and work with minimum supervision
