SEND Teaching Assistant

About the School This is a community day special school for pupils aged 3 to 19 years with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and associated needs. The school is part of the Nexus Multi Academy Trust, which oversees a network of inclusive and high-performing SEND schools across South Yorkshire.
North Ridge is structured into four phases:
- Primary Phase: EYFS to Year 6
- Secondary Phase: Years 7 to 11
- Post-16 Phase: Years 12 to 14
- The Bridge: Offsite provision for Post-16 learners focusing on independence and employability
Class sizes are small (8–12 pupils), supported by a teacher and 2–4 Learning Support Assistants. Pupils may have additional sensory, communication, or physical needs, and some require personal care.
Your Role As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils in accessing a personalised curriculum tailored to their EHCPs
- Assist with communication strategies, sensory integration, and emotional regulation
- Provide personal care and hygiene support where needed
- Facilitate learning through play, structured activities, and therapeutic interventions
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families
- Promote independence, safety, and wellbeing across all phases
What We’re Looking For We welcome applications from individuals who are:
- Experienced in working with children or young people with SEND (school, care, or community settings)
- Empathetic, patient, and resilient
- Flexible and able to adapt to a dynamic and varied school environment
- Qualified to Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (desirable but not essential)
- Willing to undertake training in Moving & Handling, Team Teach, and communication systems (e.g., PECS, Makaton)
- Experience with autism, sensory processing needs, or complex medical conditions is highly valued.
