Assistant Underwriter – Political Violence

Fenchurch Street, with hybrid working

We have a newly created role for an Assistant Underwriter to join our Political Violence team.  

The purpose of this role is to support Underwriters by providing technical expertise in reviewing and processing insurance applications, renewals, and endorsements to ensure compliance with company underwriting policies and guidelines.

This role will work closely with large data sets, using an investigative and analytical skillset to identify underwriting insights that support our ability to underwrite business. Surrounded by supportive, experienced colleagues this role will provide full exposure across the underwriting lifecycle.

Your new role

  • Underwrite risks in line with business plans, delegated authority, and regulatory requirements.
  • Negotiate rates, terms, and conditions for new and existing business.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal teams.
  • Monitor and follow up on pending policy items and claims status.
  • Support new submissions, buyer research, and underwriting model completion.
  • Prepare binder and policy documents within set deadlines.
  • Resolve escalated complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products, systems, and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with QBE policies and relevant legislation.
  • Align decisions with the annual business plan for your portfolio.

About you

  • Experience in Underwriting support including cat modelling and/or aggregation management
  • A good understanding of global geopolitics and current affairs
  • Experience in handling large volume data sets, investigating themes and identifying key data insights
  • Data savvy with advanced data analytics
  • Prior experience in managing external relationships with the ability to lead conversations
  • An understanding of relevant software including Excel and other departmental software packages
