Finance Director / Head of Finance

Finance Director / Head of Finance

Shape the finance function of a successful, award-winning creative agency.

Talent Finance is working with an independent creative business to find a commercially sharp, strategically minded Finance Director / Head of Finance to join their leadership team.

This isn’t your typical finance role tucked away in the back office. In this business, finance underpins every decision — from pricing projects and managing budgets to ensuring the right processes are in place as the agency continues to thrive. You’ll work side by side with senior creative and commercial leaders, making sure their ideas and delivery are supported by strong financial strategy.

This role would suit someone who has worked in an SME or start-up environment and is comfortable being both hands-on and strategic. You’ll be just as happy rolling up your sleeves on the detail as you are contributing at board level.

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead the finance function end-to-end; compliance, reporting, forecasting, and strategy.
  • Partner with the board on budgets, pricing, investment, and commercial planning.
  • Deliver monthly management accounts, KPI dashboards, and insights that drive decisions.
  • Oversee statutory accounts, HMRC compliance, and company secretarial duties.
  • Improve and optimise finance systems (Sage, Synergist, Time Tastic).
  • Manage and mentor a small, capable finance team.
  • Support wider commercial and HR compliance; contracts, benefits, and processes.
About you
  • Qualified accountant (CIMA / ACA / ACCA).
  • 5+ years’ commercial finance experience, ideally in creative, agency, or professional services.
  • Background in SMEs/start-ups, adaptable, pragmatic, and able to wear many hats.
  • Commercially minded, you don’t just report numbers, you use them to guide smarter business decisions.
  • Comfortable working in a business that knows what it does well and wants to keep doing it well.
  • Systems and process focused, spotting opportunities to simplify, tighten, or improve efficiency.
Why join?
  • Influence – a genuine seat at the table with visibility across the business.
  • Impact – see the results of your work quickly in a creative SME environment.
  • Culture – join a passionate, ideas-driven team that values what they do.
  • Flexibility – 4 or 5 days per week (salary pro rata), office-based with flexible hours.
  • Variety – from strategic planning to hands-on problem solving.
