Ready to escape the corporate grind? Join a brilliant little York based practice

Part-Time Qualified Accountant | £40-45K FTE | York-based with flexible home working

Ever wondered what it's like to work with a boss who actually remembers you're human? One who won't bat an eyelid if you need to pop out for the school run or fancy working from your garden office on a sunny Tuesday?

I'm supporting a small, thriving accountancy practice in York looking for an ACA or ACCA qualified accountant (or even AAT qualified with lots of practice experience from within a practice firm) who's ready to trade the corporate hamster wheel for something infinitely more rewarding.

What makes them different? You'll be working directly with the practice owner-manager – think less "demanding overlord," more "incredibly organised human who brings excellent biscuits to meetings." This isn't your typical stuffy accountancy firm. Instead it's the kind of place where flexibility isn't just a buzzword in the employee handbook – it's how they actually operate.

The clients you'll love working with:

Forget endless spreadsheets for faceless corporations. Their client roster reads like a who's who of fascinating organisations:

  • Charities making real differences in their communities
  • Arts organisations bringing culture and creativity to life
  • Social care providers supporting the most vulnerable
  • Professional actors (yes, you'll have some genuinely interesting stories to tell at dinner parties)
Each client brings their own unique challenges and personalities – meaning no two days are ever the same.

What you'll actually be doing
  • Building genuine relationships with clients who'll actually appreciate your expertise
  • Managing full sets of books across diverse sectors (goodbye, monotony!)
  • Producing management accounts and year-end reports that matter
  • Helping clients understand their numbers in plain English
  • Collaborating with a small, supportive team who won't throw you under the bus
What we need from you
  • ACA or ACCA qualification (we're serious about this one)
  • Minimum 2 years in practice – we need someone who understands client service isn't just being polite
  • Confidence with Xero, QuickBooks and the usual suspects
  • The ability to explain complex accounting concepts without making people's eyes glaze over
  • Someone who thrives on variety and building relationships
The perks that actually matter

Genuine flexibility: Work around 20 hours per week, mostly from home, with occasional visits to the York office.

Location freedom: As long as you're within an hour of York for those important face-to-face moments, they'll be happy. (And yes I know I'll probably get some responses from people in London, but you'll know if you've braved the East Coast Mainline on a regular basis that your hard earned cash will soon get eaten up on train tickets, Pret-a-Manger breakfasts and let's be honest do you really want to add over 2 hours on a train each way to your daily work?)

Interesting work: Every client has a story, and you'll be part of helping them tell it through their numbers.

Human-sized company: Your ideas matter, your voice is heard, and yes, they will remember your birthday.

Ready to make the move? If you're tired of being just another number in a big practice and want to work somewhere that values both professional expertise and work-life balance, we'd love to hear from you.

Salary: £40-45K FTE (pro-rata for part-time hours)
