Salary: FTE SCP 5 – 6 £25,583 - £25,989, Pro Rata £9,149 - £9,459 per annum, including an allocation for holiday pay

Vacancy Type: Permanent, part-time, 15 hours per week, (Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri) term-time plus 2 weeks

The High School is a member of the Education Trust. The Trust is a multi-academy Trust consisting of 13 Primary and 9 Secondary Schools.

The Role

The High School seeks to appoint a part-time Food Technician to assist in the organization, compliance and development of the Food department. The technician team work with teachers and wider technician team as well as the Trust H&S team.

Key Responsibilities

Planning, Preparation & Stock

  • Collating student recipe ingredients requirements;
  • Weighing and preparation of ingredients for practical lessons;
  • Accepting and putting away ingredient deliveries;
  • Stock rotation and date code checking;
  • Periodic stocktaking;
  • General administration e.g. photocopying, display boards.
  • Daily cleaning and checks; thoroughly sanitising work areas;
  • Laundry and dishwasher duties.

Undertaking Learning Activities with Teachers and Students

  • When requested by teaching staff, demonstrate the use of different equipment and materials with particular regard to safety, including providing technical advice, assistance and supervision to pupils during practicals, project work and assessments.
  • Where applicable, assist the teacher with coursework, delivery of work programmes/lessons and assessments within the specialist area.
  • At the request of teaching staff, provide practical advice and safety instructions to students.
  • Assist teaching staff with student support and supervision during practical work;
  • Work with staff and students on extra-curricular activities
  • Inform the Lead Technician of deficiencies in any equipment that would make it un-repairable or unsafe;
  • Inform the Lead Technician of any general

Health & Safety or other risks within the department;

  • Attend regular training sessions to keep up to date with statutory requirements and any other changes in relation to the safe operation of the Food room;
  • Make certain that all equipment in the Department conforms to Health & Safety requirements by making checks on a daily, weekly or termly basis as necessary.
  • Be aware of, and comply with, all departmental/school instructions and procedures relating to health and safety at work and to recognise the main responsibilities required under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and associated legislation.
  • Be fully aware of and comply with the Control of substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSSH).
  • Contribute to safe working practice in preparation/storage/teaching areas.

Skills and Qualifications

  • To be aware of Food Hygiene regulations.
  • The qualifications and previous experience required for a Food Technician are:
  • GCSE pass at C or above in Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Be familiar with kitchen equipment;
  • Computer literate – able to use Word and Excel.
  • Experience of working in a kitchen/catering environment would be a benefit although full training will be given.
