Careers Advisor

Are you passionate about helping young people make informed choices about their futures? We’re looking for a qualified Careers Adviser (or someone working towards Level 6) to provide high-quality careers information, advice, and guidance across two secondary schools in Wakefield.

What you’ll be doing

  • Deliver one-to-one careers guidance sessions to pupils at key transition stages (e.g. GCSE and post-16 choices).

  • Produce tailored Careers Action Plans and keep accurate records of outcomes.

  • Organise and deliver group sessions and workshops, such as employability skills, option choices, and labour market information.

  • Support schools with careers education activities, including collapsed timetable days and parent evenings.

  • Build strong working relationships with school staff and external partners to ensure young people receive the right support.

About you:

  • Level 6 Careers Guidance qualification (or Level 4 with a commitment to complete Level 6).

  • Experience of delivering careers information, advice and guidance to young people.

  • Knowledge of the Gatsby Benchmarks is desirable.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and engage young people.

  • Flexible, well organised, and able to manage a caseload effectively.

  • An understanding of safeguarding, equality, and diversity in education.


Term-time only working pattern (38 weeks), giving you excellent work/life balance.

IMPORTANT - Salary is £26,749 – £32,321 FTE (actual pro-rata salary: £11,728 – £14,172 for 3 days per week, term-time only, 38 weeks)
