Operations & Governance Manager

We are seeking an Operations & Governance Manager to lead and manage core operational systems and support governance functions. This pivotal role ensures the efficient running of internal operations and upholds high governance standards, enabling the Board and Members to fulfil their responsibilities effectively.

Day-to-day of the role:

  1. Operations Management

    • Lead the development of annual operational plans aligned with strategic priorities.
    • Oversee day-to-day organisational operations including HR, IT, supplier relationships, and office systems.
    • Develop and improve internal operational processes ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.
    • Manage operational budgets, support procurement, and track value for money across services.
    • Coordinate systems for project management, staff onboarding, and internal knowledge-sharing.
    • Contribute to staff wellbeing and engagement through structured systems and responsive support.
  2. Governance and Board Support

    • Serve as the governance lead, supporting the planning, execution, and documentation of all Board and Member meetings.
    • Maintain a governance calendar and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
    • Develop and manage induction, training, and performance tracking systems for Trustees and Members.
    • Ensure governance records are accurate, accessible, and compliant.
    • Review and update governance documentation in line with best practice.
  3. Sponsorship Oversight Support

    • Support the organisation’s role as a sponsor of Multi-Academy Trusts by coordinating key sponsor functions.
    • Maintain oversight of sponsor-related governance documents.
    • Track and support recruitment, succession planning, and engagement of Members and Trustees across sponsored entities.
    • Facilitate timely sponsor involvement in key strategic decisions within the MATs.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in operations, governance, or organisational management within the education, non-profit, or public sectors.
  • Excellent project and time management skills, able to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Clear and confident communicator, capable of preparing high-quality written material for senior stakeholders.
  • High levels of discretion and integrity when handling confidential matters.
  • Proficient with office and governance systems, ideally including Microsoft 365 and digital workflow tools.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with the governance of academies and charitable trusts, and knowledge of DfE sponsor requirements.
