SEN Teaching Assistant – Visual Impairment Support

Are you passionate about making education accessible for all learners? We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support students with visual impairments in a specialist SEND school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with visual impairments.
  • Adapt learning materials into accessible formats (e.g., Braille, large print, tactile resources).
  • Assist with mobility and orientation around the school environment.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and external specialists to implement EHCP targets.
  • Foster independence and confidence in learners through consistent, supportive interaction.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience supporting children or young people with visual impairments.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and accessibility tools.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to learning support.

Desirable:

  • Additional training in visual impairment (e.g., Braille, VI awareness, habilitation).
  • Experience working in a SEND school environment.
