Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with complex needs? We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Sheffield that supports students aged 11–19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism spectrum conditions, and associated learning difficulties.

The school provides a highly structured and therapeutic approach to education, with a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, communication, and personalised learning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students with SEMH needs in both classroom and 1:1 settings.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  • Assist in the delivery of tailored learning plans under the guidance of teaching staff and therapists.
  • Build trusting relationships with students, promoting self-esteem and resilience.
  • Contribute to a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
Essential Requirements:
  • Proven experience working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and empathetic in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable learners.
Desirable:
  • Experience in a specialist SEMH or autism provision.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, or youth work.
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training.
