Salary: SCP 4–8 (£24,404 – £25,992 Actual Salary)

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (52 weeks)

Hours: 7:30am–3:30pm (Mon–Thurs), 7:30am–3:00pm (Fri)

Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme

Location: Astrea Academy Sheffield

Reports to: Site Manager

Are you a practical, proactive individual with a passion for maintaining safe, welcoming environments? Astrea Academy Sheffield is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to help ensure our school site is secure, clean, and well-maintained for our scholars, staff, and community.

About the Role

As a key member of our site team, you will:

  • Act as a primary key holder and ensure site security.
  • Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and gardening duties.
  • Support with health and safety compliance, including fire safety and Legionella checks.
  • Respond to emergencies such as break-ins, floods, or urgent cleaning needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety across school grounds, including snow clearance and gritting.
  • Liaise with contractors and emergency services when required.
  • Assist with refuse collection, graffiti removal, and minor plumbing or joinery tasks.
We’re Looking for Someone Who:
  • Ideally has at least 2 years’ experience in a similar caretaking or maintenance role.
  • Ideally holds strong literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Maths).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of building maintenance and health & safety practices.
  • Is friendly, flexible, and committed to keeping children and the community safe.
  • Can work independently and as part of a team, with excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Ideally has experience in a trade (e.g. plumbing, joinery) and/or within an educational setting.
