Design Manager

R13 Recruitment are partnering with a highly reputable organisation in the construction sector, leading their search for a skilled Design Manager to take the reins on the design of commercial and multi-occupancy projects. This opportunity plays a pivotal role in delivering an innovative, high-quality, high value scheme within the region and being the driving force from concept to construction, ensuring every detail is right, every deadline is met, and every stakeholder is aligned.

You will oversee the coordination and flow of design information, managing both in-house teams and third-party consultants, ensuring the compliance, quality and efficiency across all design outputs. This is a genuine opportunity to help shape the future of commercial design in the local area, using your technical expertise and experience.

Working hours: Monday to Thursday - 8.30am to 5.00pm and Friday - 8.30am to 4.30pm. Please note that this position could be considered on a four-day working week basis.

Both permanent or contractor applications considered.

The day to day

  • Taking the full ownership of leading design information, including updates and changes.
  • Coordinating with internal teams and external consultants to deliver accurate and timely design.
  • Managing design registers, specifications, materials schedules, and ensuring consistency.
  • Setting up and chairing meetings to ensure requirements are being met efficiently.
  • Supporting the technical team with project delivery, including contracting schemes, and conveyance drawings.
  • Regular reporting on development progress, against objectives and development expenses.
  • Driving innovation by encouraging cost-effective, value-adding design solutions.
  • Overseeing design changes, ensuring clear communication and control across all stakeholders.

You will have/be

  • Strong background in construction design, methods, and technology.
  • Experience in delivering commercial or multi occupancy residential projects (essential).
  • Expertise in managing both internal and external stakeholders to drive projects.
  • Confidence in using Microsoft applications and project planning tools to manage timelines.
  • Solid understanding of contracts, construction materials, environmental legislation, health & safety.
  • Excellent coordination, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance technical accuracy with innovative, practical solutions.
  • A collaborative approach, with experience managing multiple stakeholders.
