Site Manager

WorkwithSchools are working with a number of school clients, based in and around York and North Yorkshire to recruit Site Managers.

The purpose of the role is to make sure the school buildings and grounds are in proper working order, maintaining a safe working environment for all users.

A competitive rate of pay is on offer.


Key duties include:

  • Responsibility for the security of the buildings and grounds. Monitoring of CCTV equipment and intruder alarms
  • Being part of a team of key-holders being first point of contact for access to school premises including out of hours
  • Carrying out security checks of buildings and grounds
  • Being part of a rota system to unlock, lock and secure buildings
  • Making sure that all fire safety and health and safety regulations are adhered to etc. Testing of fire equipment and following all procedures for evacuating the buildings
  • Carrying out mandatory legal checks for compliance ie; legionella, fire etc
  • Adherence to COSHH regulations and keeping records up-to-date
  • Carrying out repairs where possible i.e, changing light bulbs, securing windows, general painting & decorating, unblocking sinks etc and liaising with external contractors
  • Keeping the premises clean and tidy, removing graffiti, rubbish, leaves etc. Includes cleaning up when students are ill or have accidents.
  • Gritting & maintaining the sites.
  • Arranging furniture and preparing rooms for meetings, exams, assemblies and after school events


The successful candidate needs a good level of practical skills in the following areas:

  • Painting and decorating skills
  • Buildings and grounds maintenance
  • Safe use of ladders and platforms
  • Manual handling techniques
  • Fire safety measures
  • Security issues (including re-programming alarms)
  • Safe use of power tools
  • Boiler maintenance
  • Locksmith techniques
  • Use of specialist equipment
  • Clean driving licence required
  • Needs to have a good awareness and knowledge of:
  • Health & Safety legislation and the practical implications
  • Safe disposal of sharps
  • COSHH issues
  • Electrical safety
  • Waste disposal procedures
  • School protocols, policies and procedures
