Internal Audit Manager

Our client is a leading international bank recognised for its strong commitment to governance, ethical banking, and financial excellence. The Internal Audit function plays a pivotal role in providing independent assurance to the Board and Executive Management on the effectiveness of the bank’s governance, risk management, and internal control frameworks. An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Internal Audit Manager to join on a part-time basis (3 or 4 days per week). The role offers flexibility for the right professional seeking a balanced schedule while contributing to a high-performing internal audit function.

The salary will be pro-rated to reflect the agreed working pattern,


Overview:

The Internal Audit Manager will lead and deliver a risk-based audit plan across key business and operational areas. The role involves providing independent, objective assurance and advisory services designed to add value and improve the organisation’s operations. Working closely with senior management, the Internal Audit Manager will help strengthen internal controls, enhance compliance, and ensure best practice in governance and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, plan, and manage internal audit assignments from scoping through to reporting and follow-up.
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance frameworks.
  • Identify control weaknesses and operational risks, recommending pragmatic solutions that strengthen the control environment.
  • Present audit findings and recommendations to senior management, ensuring clear communication and timely implementation of agreed actions.
  • Oversee and supporting their development and adherence to audit methodology and standards.
  • Coordinate with second-line functions such as Risk, Compliance, and Finance to maintain an integrated assurance approach.
  • Contribute to the annual risk assessment and audit planning process.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulators as required.

Skills & Experience:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; a recognised professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIA, or CISA) is preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years’ internal audit experience within banking or financial services
  • Strong knowledge of banking operations, financial instruments, and UK regulatory requirements (PRA/FCA).
  • Proven experience in developing and executing risk-based audit plans.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing abilities.
  • High ethical standards, sound judgement, and a commitment to professional independence.
