Speech and Language Therapist

Job Title: Senior Speech and Language Therapist - Band 6 or Band 7

Location: Ipswich

Hours: Part Time, 22.5 hours per week.


Job Purpose

As a Senior Speech and Language Therapist at Brainkind in Ipswich, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality neurorehabilitation for adults with acquired brain injury and neurological conditions. You will provide specialist assessment and intervention for individuals with complex communication and swallowing needs, and contribute to the leadership and development of the therapy team within a multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver specialist SLT assessments, diagnosis, and evidence-based interventions to individuals with acquired neurological impairments (e.g. aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, dysphagia)
  • Formulate, implement and evaluate individual therapy plans in partnership with service users, families, and other professionals
  • Lead on dysphagia management
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and support to junior therapists and assistants
  • Contribute to service development, audit, outcome measurement, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team including psychology, physiotherapy, OT, nursing and care staff
  • Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional and organisational standards
  • Liaise with families, carers, community teams, and external stakeholders to ensure continuity of care and discharge planning
  • Participate in CPD, training, and reflective practice to maintain and develop clinical expertise

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Significant post-qualification experience, including in neurorehabilitation or acquired brain injury
  • Competence in assessment and management of communication and swallowing disorders
  • Excellent communication, organisational and clinical reasoning skills
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams
  • Ability to supervise, mentor and develop others
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development
