Job Description

As the Housekeeper, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a welcoming and clean environment for the residents. The care home is their home, so in your role you will need to be mindful of this and prioritise the residents and their loved ones’ needs, making polite conversation and building a good rapport with individuals.

Your responsibilities will include carrying out cleaning and laundry services, fostering positive relationships with residents and their families, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in accordance with regulatory guidelines.


Duties

Main Function of the Job:

Ensure cleaning and laundry services meet agreed standards, legislative requirements, and best practices while adhering to financial plans.

Create and maintain a clean, tidy, and pleasant environment for residents, ensuring all areas are free from malodours.

Engage in ongoing training and development to enhance your skills and knowledge related to the role.

Demonstrate a solid understanding of the Care Act and CQC’s Essential Standards, and assist in maintaining and improving these standards.

Head Housekeeper- Manage, monitor, safeguard and order cleaning materials and supplies, working within budget and seeking opportunities to reduce costs and wastage.

Head Housekeeper- Supervise other housekeeping staff, assign tasks and audit the housekeeping functions to ensure compliance and performance.

Cleaning Services:

Oversee and ensure the thorough cleaning of all communal areas and resident rooms, ensuring they are free from dust and stains.

Regularly dust and wipe down picture rails, cornices, dado rails, and skirting boards using appropriate equipment.

As required clean insides of windows.

Carry out vacuuming of carpeted areas and mopping of hard floors, ensuring the correct color-coded equipment is used.

Carry out extraction cleaning of carpets, curtains, chairs and other upholstery.

Manage waste disposal, ensuring rubbish bins are emptied and contents are sorted into recycling as required.

Ensure bathrooms and toilets are cleaned with appropriate materials and equipment.

Safeguard proper storage of cleaning materials and adherence to Health and Safety and Infection Control policies.

Display relevant hazard notices during and after cleaning.

Maintain standards of cleaning competence and implement actions to enhance cleaning quality.

Laundry Services:

Ensure the laundry service meets established standards and adheres to Health & Safety regulations.

Launder items according to policies and procedures, particularly ensuring the safe handling of contaminated items.

Manage the laundering of residents’ individual items, ensuring timely return to the correct resident.

Identify when replacements are required and liaise with DM / RM to choose replacements for home’s assets.

Other Responsibilities:

Cultivate effective working relationships with all staff, promoting teamwork and collaboration.

Treat residents with dignity and respect, ensuring their right to confidentiality is upheld.

Foster an inclusive organisational culture that values open communication.

Work within legal frameworks and best practice guidance to minimize risks.

Contribute to the development and implementation of cleaning policies and procedures.

Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of the cleaning service and resolving day-to-day operational issues.

Attend staff meetings and contribute to the overall positive atmosphere of the workplace.

Uphold a culture of performance and excellence, promoting a high quality of work life for all employees.

Requirements

Previous experience in a housekeeping role, preferably in a healthcare or residential setting.

Strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations, Infection Control procedures, and relevant cleaning standards.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff.

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Commitment to maintaining the dignity and respect of all residents.
