Part Time Financial Controller - 3 days per week

Our client is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their team on a part time basis. The Financial Controller will oversee the company’s accounting and financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic alignment with business objectives. You will:


  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cashflow statements
  • Maintain the integrity of financial data through strong internal controls and reconciliation processes
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory frameworks
  • Manage all aspects of payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to current payroll legislation
  • Oversee HR-related compliance, including statutory reporting, pension obligations, and employee benefits
  • Keep up to date with employment and payroll legislation, advising directors and staff accordingly
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements and digital taxation systems
  • Advise and guide the business and directors on current tax regulations, company tax compliance, and director-related obligations
  • Liaise with HMRC and external advisors to ensure timely and accurate submissions and adherence to all digital reporting standards
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and regular cashflow projections
  • Provide strategic insight into cashflow management and working capital optimisation
  • Support directors with financial planning and funding decisions
  • Oversee credit control processes to ensure timely collection of debts and effective cashflow management
  • Develop and monitor credit policies and procedures to minimise bad debt risk
  • Maintain strong relationships with customers while enforcing appropriate credit terms
  • Maintain and enhance back-office systems, ensuring efficiency and reliability in financial and operational data management
  • Leverage IT tools to automate reporting, improve data accuracy, and streamline workflows
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems and processes
  • Partner with directors to provide commercial insight, financial guidance, and general business advice
  • Apply sound, sensible business practices to support operational and strategic decision-making
  • Assist in developing long-term financial strategies that align with business growth objectives
  • Act as the main point of contact for external auditors and coordinate the annual audit process
  • Manage relationships with banks, tax advisors, and other financial partners


The Ideal candidate will have:


  • Comprehensive understanding of payroll processes, legislation, and HR compliance
  • Strong working knowledge of digital tax systems and regulations affecting companies and directors
  • Understanding of credit management processes and cashflow principles
  • Proven ability to analyse financial data and provide actionable insights
  • Deep understanding of accounting standards, taxation, and employment legislation
  • Strong knowledge of financial software, back-office systems, and general IT tools
  • Ability to apply practical business acumen and advise directors on financial and operational strategy
  • Effective team management and collaboration skills to drive departmental performance
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of financial reporting
