SALARY: £24,414 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £ £9,904 (based on 17.5 hours) + Benefits

LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire(SO30) – Fully Site Based

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 17.5 hours per week, 10.30am – 2.30pm Monday to Friday, term time only (39 weeks)

Please note: This role is working between 3 school sites, so a driving licence and own vehicle is required

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a School Kitchen Assistant to work as part of a dedicated kitchen team within a large secondary school environment.

As a School Kitchen Assistant you will support the preparation, cooking and serving of food and drinks to students and staff, ensuring high standards of hygiene and food safety are maintained at all times.

The successful School Kitchen Assistant will enjoy working in a busy, friendly team and should be able to work across the organisation’s school sites if required, so a driving licence is essential.

DUTIES

Your duties as the School Kitchen Assistant include:

• Food Preparation: Assist in preparing and cooking meals for students and staff
• Food Service: Help to serve hot and cold food and drinks efficiently and safely
• Cleaning Duties: Maintain high standards of cleanliness in all kitchen and dining areas
• Health & Safety: Follow food hygiene, allergy, and safety regulations at all times
• Team Support: Work closely with colleagues to ensure smooth kitchen operations
• Equipment Maintenance: Clean and store kitchen equipment correctly after use
• Dining Area Setup: Prepare and dismantle eating areas before and after meal service
• Site Flexibility: Provide catering support at other nearby school sites when required

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Proven experience working in a catering, kitchen, or food service environment
• Understanding of food hygiene, health and safety, and allergen procedures
• A positive, can-do attitude with the ability to work well as part of a team
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Flexibility to work across multiple school sites as needed
• Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate (training can be provided if necessary)
• Full, clean driving licence and own vehicle
