Data Analyst

This is a unique opportunity to join a growing division, working across a variety of corporate insurance programmes and for some of the best known and loved UK brands. The opportunity is for a Data Analyst to support the Client Service Team, Sector Leaders and Client Account Managers with delivery of analytical insight by client, class, sector and industry. 

The Data Analyst will be responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality data solutions. This shall include a good understanding of Management Information and Business Intelligence needs of Davies’ clients and needs across the organisation. They will produce key analysis needed to build appropriate solutions and will be able to work with Clients, Client Account Managers and Senior Managers. 

They will work side-by-side with developers and members of the business to capture requirements and help shape the development of the Davies reports and dashboards. This will involve; but is not limited to, creating and managing a suite of specifications

Using claims data, the Data Analyst will assist with specialist analytical requests as and when required, share unique reports with commentary at agreed intervals and review external data – whether for new business opportunities or benchmarking exercises. 
The Data Analyst will also support the operational team with oversight of performance by client, by team and by handler – identifying anomalies and/or opportunities for improvement, as well as monitoring and in some instances supporting, the identification of key performance indicators


Key Responsibilities

Build and produce quarterly sector insight

  • Work with sector leaders and aligned Client Service Manager (CSM) to determine key claims insight and performance metrics for the sector
  • Metrics likely to include; volumes, ASCOC, defensibility, common cause types, location and injury insight, demographical insight, fraud insight, litigation rates (and motor specific; intervention performance, capture rates, recovery values, etc)
  • As required, draft articles for sector newsletters and/or if established, for the annual insight papers (envisaged as collateral for the annual Airmic Conference)


Gaining and sharing insight

  • Being vigilant, inquisitive and proactive in the search for market data insight either by class of business and or sector and sharing any newsworthy trends or market impacts with Sector Leaders, CAMs and the Client Service Team, i.e. market statistics on average cost of claim, MOJ portal statistics, CRU data and/or intelligence derived from working with our fraud team and fraud database


Benchmarking
Quarterly sector benchmarking to coincide with the sector insight:

  • Client-by-client tabular comparisons for the sector
  • Sub-sector comparisons 
  • Deal with ad-hoc benchmarking requests, which may be client driven or could be more bespoke


New business analysis
We often receive MI from brokers for silent reviews and benchmarking. We also receive MI as part of new business tenders

This role will require the analysis of such data to:

  • Identify gaps / opportunities
  • Support the formulation of performance metrics (potentially including risk-reward KPIs)
  • Assist with accurate pricing (and profitability assessments) 


Client policy assessment

  • Support CAMs and CSMs with preparation for review meetings, particularly key accounts
  • Support to include captive reporting / insight, maturity and policy year analysis and forecasting


Operational support

  • Work with OD, BUDs and DBUDs to build operational insight to bolster performance and identify weakness / opportunities / risks 


Commentary

With all that is produced, provide the recipient(s) with supplementary commentary and key messages for extrapolation and dissemination in client meetings/packs or external marketing collateral 


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Legal / Insurance

  • Experience of motor and/or casualty claims desired

An ideal candidate will also have some understanding of:

  • the claims and litigation process
  • insurance industry and corporate insurance programmes 


Technical

  • Demonstrate technical capability in the use of Microsoft Excel and working with raw data, to include detailed and skilled use of – 
  • Pivot tables
  • VLOOKUP
  • Sums and formulas
  • Conditional formatting and data validation
  • Charts and graphs
  • Merging of different data sets and sources
  • Building of queries


Demonstrate an understanding of case management systems and claims databases, including the way in which one influences another to shape data / MI

  • Identify trends, interpret data and determine actionable next steps

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support with bids / tender support (new and existing business)
  • Work with CSMs and Dev Teams to develop new reports / insight as needed
  • Assist and potentially participate in client review meetings when requested by the CAM
  • Attend and participate in monthly Client Service meetings
  • Attend and participate in Operational meetings when requested
  • Work on project work as required by the business
