About the Role:

Our client are a long-established firm of chartered accountants with seven offices across Kent, serving a diverse portfolio of small to medium-sized businesses. Based in their Dover office, they are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper with cloud bookkeeping experience to manage and oversee our bookkeeping functions for the firm and its clients.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all bookkeeping activities, including VAT and MTD compliance (from April 2026). They will delegate tasks to team members, review their work and ensure accuracy and timeliness across all financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the bookkeeping for the firm's clients, ensuring accurate record-keeping and compliance.
  • Handle VAT returns and preparations, including MTD submissions starting April 2026.
  • Use cloud bookkeeping software, primarily Xero, along with other similar tools.
  • Oversee the full bookkeeping process, including data entry, reconciliations, and client communication.
  • Delegate tasks to team members and review their work to ensure quality standards.
  • Maintain and develop efficient processes to streamline bookkeeping activities.
  • Assist with or support the preparation of financial statements and other reporting tasks as required.
  • Manage multiple client portfolios, providing a high level of service and accuracy.

Key Requirements:

  • At least two years of bookkeeping experience, ideally within practice or with multiple clients.
  • Cloud bookkeeping experience, particularly with Xero.
  • Knowledge of VAT, MTD compliance, and general accounting principles.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple clients and tasks.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional attitude and attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Practice experience is preferred, but relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Knowledge of other cloud software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) is a plus.
