Accounts Assistant | Halesowen | up to £32,000

We're working with a long-established client in Halesowen that's entering a key transition phase. The finance team is seeking a confident and capable Accounts Assistant to help ensure continuity and accuracy across core financial processes.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you'll take ownership of maintaining the financial integrity of the general ledger and supporting the wider team through the month-end process. You'll be the kind of person who enjoys getting into the detail, solving problems, and making sure everything reconciles perfectly.

Key Responsibilities:

General Ledger Management

• Maintain and oversee all entries within the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness across all accounts.
• Post journals for accruals, prepayments, payroll, and other adjustments as required.
• Review and reconcile control accounts regularly, investigating and resolving variances in a timely manner.
• Support the preparation of management accounts and ensure the integrity of financial data feeding into reports.
• Work collaboratively with operational teams to ensure transactions are coded and recorded correctly.

Month-End and Reporting

• Support month-end close activities ensuring deadlines are met and information is reported accurately.
• Prepare key reconciliations, including balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
• Support in producing monthly P&L reports and providing commentary or analysis for management as needed.
• Contribute to the development of more streamlined, efficient month-end processes and documentation.

Broader Finance Support

• Provide cover for payroll processing where required (no previous payroll experience needed)
• Offer hands-on support to Accounts Payable and other transactional functions to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
• Assist with ad hoc projects and reporting requirements during the closure phase of the site.
• Take a proactive role in identifying process improvements, helping to create a more efficient and effective finance function.

About You

We're looking for someone who brings energy, curiosity, and a flexible mindset. You'll be comfortable stepping into a varied role and contributing wherever needed, while maintaining a strong attention to detail.

You will ideally:

• Be studying towards (CIMA or ACCA) with a good grounding in management and financial accounting.
• Have prior experience working within a finance function - manufacturing or private sector experience would be advantageous.
• Be analytical, methodical, and highly organised, with an ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines.
• Remain calm under pressure, taking ownership of your work and maintaining accuracy even when priorities shift.
• Possess excellent communication skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively across teams.
