SEN Teaching Assistant – ASD & Communication Needs

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to join a well-regarded specialist school in Sheffield. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about making a significant impact in the lives of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including those who are non-verbal or have significant communication challenges.

This inclusive and nurturing school supports pupils aged 11–19 with ASD across multiple sites in Sheffield. It provides a calm, structured, and supportive setting where every pupil is known, valued, and encouraged to thrive. The school is Ofsted rated “Good” and is praised for its commitment to pupil development, safeguarding, and inclusive practices.

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with ASD and communication difficulties.
• Utilise alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton, AAC) to support non-verbal pupils.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to deliver consistent and meaningful support.
• Help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.

• Experience working with children or young people with ASD and/or communication needs.
• A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn communication strategies such as PECS or Makaton.
