Position Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic LGV Technician to join our team. You’ll be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing large goods vehicles (LGVs) to ensure they are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with transport regulations. The role involves diagnosing faults, performing routine servicing, and carrying out complex mechanical and electrical repairs on trucks, trailers, and other commercial vehicles. 


Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine inspections, servicing, and maintenance of LGVs in line with DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) standards
  •  Performing necessary repairs and maintenance on engine components, transmission, brakes, suspension, exhaust systems, and electrical systems
  • Carrying out scheduled maintenance tasks such as oil changes, wheel torques, and brake inspections to prevent breakdowns
  • After repairs, test vehicles to ensure that all issues have been addressed and that the vehicle operates safely and efficiently
  • Conduct MOT preparation and post-test inspections to ensure vehicles meet legal requirements
  • Maintaining accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and service schedules 
  • Attend breakdowns on site or at the roadside
  • Keep the workshop, tools, and equipment clean, organised, and well-maintained
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop efficiency and quality of service
  • Work collaboratively with other technicians, workshop supervisor, and Transport Manager
  • Communicate clearly about repair progress, parts requirements, and potential delays
  • Provide technical advice and support to apprentices and junior team members.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair  or equivalent
  • Proven experience as an LGV / HGV Technician or Commercial Vehicle Mechanic
  • Valid UK driving licence (Category C or C+E preferred).
  • Familiarity with DVSA inspection standards, Tachograph systems, and vehicle diagnostic software
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Good time management and ability to prioritise workloads
  • Excellent customer service skills
