Engineering Technician (Part-Time)
Location: Swindon, Wiltshire
Salary: £35,000–£40,000 (pro rata) + Weekend Shift Allowance
Hours: 2–3 Days Per Week (Flexible)
Are you an Engineering Technician, Electrical Technician or Maintenance Electrician looking for a flexible part-time role in the Swindon area?
We’re recruiting for an experienced multi-skilled Engineering Maintenance Technician to support a busy manufacturing and production environment.
If you enjoy electrical fault-finding, preventative maintenance (PPM), and keeping equipment running safely and reliably, this could be the ideal opportunity.
The Role
As the Engineering Technician, you’ll carry out a range of electrical and maintenance engineering tasks to keep the site operating smoothly. You will work on electrical installations, fault diagnosis, PPM schedules, and support reactive maintenance when needed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing and delivering the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule
- Conducting electrical installation, inspection, testing, and fault-finding on plant and machinery
- Working within hazardous areas and selecting compliant CompEx equipment
- Coordinating subcontractors and overseeing engineering and maintenance activities
- Ensuring cost-effective procurement and engineering support
- Maintaining manufacturing equipment, production machinery and site utilities
- Routine testing of fire alarms, emergency lighting, and sprinkler systems
- Prioritising requests and planning corrective and reactive maintenance tasks
- Ensuring full compliance with health & safety and environmental standards
- Providing out-of-hours support when required
- Reporting performance updates and continuous improvement plans to management
This is a varied role ideal for someone who enjoys technical challenges, structured maintenance, and ensuring equipment reliability.
About You
You’ll be a proactive, organised engineer who can work independently with a strong focus on safety, problem solving and efficient maintenance practices.
You will have:
- AM2 qualification (Approved Practical Electrical Qualification)
- EAL Level 3 (Verification, Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations)
- CompEx qualification (or willingness to train)
- Experience as an Electrical Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Engineer, or similar
- Strong competency in electrical testing and machinery maintenance
- Excellent organisation, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Good IT skills (Excel and Word)
- A flexible and adaptable approach
- Multidisciplinary maintenance experience is highly beneficial.
