We are seeking a dedicated Social Worker to join our team at the Family Centre in Barnsley. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in front-line child protection, safeguarding children, and parenting assessments. The position offers flexible working hours, with a requirement to be on-site a minimum of two days per week.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Undertake and lead Parenting Assessments on a residential basis, working with families under assessment.
  • Ensure the needs of babies/children are promoted, focusing on their safety and wellbeing through clear risk assessments, safety actions plans, and appropriate levels of observation and support.
  • Work as part of a team, directing support staff to assist parents day-to-day, and conducting sessions to help parents develop successful parenting skills and live independently.
  • Coordinate placements, including planning and reviewing assessments regularly, addressing any safeguarding concerns immediately.
  • Produce evidence-based, comprehensive reports to inform planning for the child and attend court as required.
  • Organise and chair placement review meetings, ensuring full engagement of parents in the assessment process using a Signs of Safety approach.
  • Liaise regularly with local authority social workers, children’s guardians, and solicitors, keeping all parties updated on progress within the assessment.
  • Support the management and leadership team in maintaining high standards of service at the Family Centre.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in statutory childcare work, including front-line child protection.
  • Experience in parenting assessments and court work in Public Law.
  • Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW, or equivalent) and registration with Social Work England.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, attachment theory, and safeguarding protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and IT skills, with the ability to produce detailed, evidence-based reports.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends, as needed.
