SEND Support Workers, Session Leaders & Volunteers

1. SEND Support Workers

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for children with SEND
  • Supporting children with communication, social development, and emotional regulation
  • Assisting with sensory needs, personal care (if required), and adapting activities
  • Creating a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment
  • Communicating effectively with parents, carers and the wider team
  • Following individual support plans, EHCPs and behaviour strategies
  • Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety and organisational policies are followed

Desirable qualities / experience:

  • Experience working with SEND (autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, SEMH, physical needs etc.)
  • Experience in childcare, youth work, education or care settings
  • Calm, patient, nurturing approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children and colleagues
  • Need to be on the updated service


2. Session Leaders

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and delivering structured SEND-friendly sessions
  • Planning engaging activities suitable for a range of needs
  • Overseeing staff, volunteers and children
  • Maintaining high safeguarding and behaviour management standards
  • Ensuring sessions run smoothly, safely and on time
  • Communicating with parents, staff and management
  • Opening and locking up Venues training provided

Desirable qualities:

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experience in early years, youth work or SEND settings
  • Have experience with working with children and young people with special educational needs.
  • how to lead a small team
  • Behaviour management skills
  • DSL training
  • Need to be on the updated service


3. Volunteers

We welcome volunteers who are passionate about supporting children with SEND.

Volunteers assist with:

  • Engaging children in activities
  • Supporting staff during sessions
  • Helping set up and pack away
  • Providing encouragement, supervision and positive interaction

Full training is provided. Volunteers must be willing to complete an enhanced DBS check.
