New Business Manager

Location: Rayleigh

We are on the hunt for a talented New Business Manager to lead our Construction and Casualty team, working with various Delegated Underwriting Authority binders in our Rayleigh office (SS6) with hybrid working available.

What will you do as New Business Manager:

This is an overview of duties and responsibilities and not an exhaustive list.

• Develop a plan to drive the business forward while maintaining sound underwriting principles.
• Implementing and managing Placement Strategy Plan.
• Working within the parameters of the various Delegated Underwriting Authorities.
• Working with stakeholders on the business strategy.
• Overall responsibility for the department’s annual GWP and Income targets.
• Build close relationships with our capacity providers and attend review meetings that may include performance, individual risks, underwriting guide changes, appetite criteria etc.
• Underwriting of risks to meet individual targets, managing underwriters and teams targets providing support and guidance.
• Monitoring and development of enquiry levels.
• Working closely with the separate Sales Team to develop new and existing broker agencies/relationships.
• Attend monthly management meetings and report on departments performance.
• Responsible for marketing material and promotions, work closely with the marketing department.
• Monitor our underwriter’s activity, in areas such as broker contact, service levels, enquiry levels, quote levels, conversion levels, income retention levels, targets and objectives.
• Ensuring company service levels and standards are maintained and improved where needed.
• Deliver good customer outcomes by adhering to the Consumer Duty principles and comply with compliance framework.
• Ensure our Underwriters work within personal authority limits.
• Managing any Performance Improvement Plans as necessary.
• Ensuring necessary training and development of employees within the team.

What we are looking for in our New Business Manager:

• 10 years proven underwriting experience in Casualty and Construction lines including Combined Liability, Contractors, All Risks and Excess of Loss including focus on larger and more complex cases.
• Ideally CII qualified or working towards this.
• Proficient with Microsoft office (Outlook, Excel and Word)
• Proven track record of embracing and working in an environment of change.
• Results focused, commercially minded, and an ability to thrive in a high paced goal driven environment.
• Proficient knowledge of Casualty underwriting principles and practice.
• Good risk analysis and technical skills.
• Proven track record of a proactive approach to securing business and ability to build relationships.
• Works well under pressure alone and within a team environment
• Strong organisational skills with an ability to prioritise workload.
• Strong communication skills – written and verbal
