DIFFERENT TYPES OF DISINFECTANTS AND ITS IMPORTANCE

What are disinfectants?

Disinfectants are antimicrobial chemicals that are applied to the surface of various non-living objects in order to destroy microorganisms that are living on the objects. Common disinfectants include alcohol, bleach, chloramine, chlorine dioxide, formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde, ozone, quaternary ammonium salts, silver dihydrogen citrate, and thymol.

Aldehydes
They are chemical agents that kill microorganisms, parasitic fungi, and spores or stop their growth. They are very effective against harmful microorganisms that cause ailments like tuberculosis.

Phenol is probably the oldest known household disinfectant. Phenolic Compounds are effective against pathogenic bacteria (including mycobacterium, tuberculosis), fungi and viruses. The different compounds in phenol have antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-fungal properties.

Hydrogen Peroxides
They are used in hospitals to disinfect surfaces and are either used in solution alone or with other chemical combinations to achieve specific disinfecting claims. It is often preferred because it causes far fewer allergic reactions than other disinfectants.
